Mike has trained me on and off for over twenty years. Prior to that time I utilized various gym facilities and trained myself. But as my career made more and more demands on me, I decided to investigate the advantages of a dedicated trainer. Mike’s approach has always been based on simple fundamentals not gimmicks, fads or trends. He has been there whenever I needed to ‘return to the path’. Most recently we met to discuss organizing a plan to counter the adverse effects of stress and aging that resulted from my latest fitness hiatus. I can report that in the past six months I have dropped over sixty pounds. I am a 61-year-old man who has had two back surgeries and doesn’t want the third. My surgeon suggested that I build up my core muscles to take the stress off my lower back. Additionally, I went on my first cruise for my 60th birthday and decided that I didn’t want to look like most of the other 60-year-old men that I saw on the boat! Mike Larson (Lars ) has been working with me for a year now and I can feel the difference in my back. I’m not as “wasted” after a day of yardwork and I recover much faster. AND I just recently noticed that I’m able to wear clothes that were too tight a year ago. I had the pleasure of working with Mike through a charity auction. At the time I had been out of the gym for going on a year. Working with him was extremely rewarding and renewed my love for fitness and lifting. With his strength training, I was even able to run a—completely untrained for—half marathon and enjoy it while being pain free!! Someone recently told me, while helping a friend move, that they would hate to be in an endurance contest with me. That’s all thanks to Mike. After receiving an “abnormal” test result on my first bone density scan, I was concerned as my grandmother suffered from osteoarthritis and my mother was already taking medication to improve her bone density. It was about that time I began weight training at Mekuly’s. At my second scan the next year, my results were in the “normal” range. The physician was very pleased and told me that such improvement seldom occurs and was due to my twice a week weight training sessions.
I have been training for 3 years at Mekuly’s now–2 years with Lars. He is a positive guy who has a great sense of humor and is fun to work with. Highly recommend this place and Mr. Larsen!
